Finally got the caterpillar costume done for Hunter (thank goodness, because he needs it Thursday!). He's going to be The Very Hungry Caterpillar for Storybook Character Day at school. He thought it was going to be a fun costume, but now he wishes I'd made a scarier, more macho character. Wish in one hand, spit in the other...

How do I do this???!!! My son is in the school talent show in two days!!! I need to make this costume!! :) Please help!
How do I do this??? Please help!!!!
First I bought some fat quarters in coordinating colors from Walmart. I cut eight ovals out using pinking shears for the front and back. I pinned then sewed a skinny strip of elastic onto the bottom two ovals on the front and back to give it some gathers. I pinned then sewed each oval to the next on the front and back.
*my ovals were very rectangular, by the way...
To make the shoulder straps, I cut a rectangle of fabric about 8" x 3". I pinned it lengthwise and sewed down the long side to form a tube. I turned it right side out, pressed, and sewed it to the top of both sides of the top ovals. I wanted the sides to not be so flappy, so I made two more tubes and sewed them to the sides of the middle of the second oval.
I used one of my son's hoodies for a pattern for the hood. I traced about 1/2" out from the hoodie hat to allow for a seam allowance. I pressed a 1/4" under on the front and bottom, then I pressed it another 1/4" and sewed a straight seam. For the eyes, I traced a bowl lid and cut it out with pinking shears. I stitched it on the hood with a zigzag stitch. I traced a medicine lid for the inner circle of the eye and sewed it on top. I cut out a shape for the antennae from brown felt ( to have it be stiffer). I stitched up one side and turned it right side out. I folded it at the bottom and sewed it on top. I put it on my son to figure out how much to close it. I marked the spots to sew on snaps. I then sewed a large button over the snap on the outside to hide it.
If you have any other questions, I'll try to help. It's been a while since I made this. :)
